November
Still a feeling of autumn in the air - and why not, it is still autumn. But winter seems to loom so large. That's why we aren't staying in Munich. We have plans to leave Munich the last week of November and return in early January. It will still be winter here when we come back, but we might have been able to avoid some of the cold days. Our destination is southern Spain, Andalucia, on its Atlantic coast. So let's see how many last rides for the year I can chalk up in November.
Ride 120 - November 1, 2018
We rode our bikes to Schleissheim Palace. It was All Saints' Day and we were surprised to see the turnout at the cemetery in Hochmutting, close to the location of the Palace. The paths and road, where there is otherwise no traffic whatsoever, were jammed. Apparently it is one of the largest burial grounds for the area and there were many visitors honoring the graves of family and friends who have passed on.
Ride 121 - Novemeber 5, 2018
The weather couldn't be more inviting. We headed north to the New Israelite Cemetery where I wanted to get some pictures. Since I didn't have a permit and it's a private cemetery, I was told to put my camera away. I enjoyed the visit anyway. Just wandering between the gravestones and reading the inscriptions is a moving experience. On the way home we passed by the Schwabinger See.
Ride 122 - November 8, 2018
One of the loveliest days in fall so far. Here we are on our way to the Botanical Garden. If you look carefully, you can see the leaves floating down from the branches above to make an ever thicker carpet on the ground.
Ride 123 - November 10,2018
A short ride to Königsplatz
November 11, the day of the Armistice Treaty of Compiègne, marks the centenary of the end of the First World War. For this occasion, the Munich action artist Walter Kuhn has transformed the Königsplatz into a sea of several thousand large red poppies. More pictures on my blog from my previous visit on foot a few days earlier.

Ride 124 - November 12, 2018
After a visit to the dentist's, I visited Munich's Kunstareal for a few shots of some interesting outdoor art. Here we see the Futuro house.
Ride 125 - November 13, 2018
Janos and I were given some vouchers for food and drink at Dallmayr's, a kind of swanky food shop with a small restaurant. Not a place where we would usually stop for lunch. But since we were there, we decided to do it right - we had a dozen oysters and then pasta with truffels. The food was good and the people watching was entertaining. On the way home we detoured through the English Garden. The sky was gloomy - definitely the beginning of grey days.
Ride 126 - November 14, 2018
Looked out the window at breakfast and saw fog. I quickly brushed my teeth and grabbed my camera for a photo shoot in the nearby cemetery. It was lovely. Here are some more pictures on my blog.
Ride 127 - November 16, 2018
A ride and a walk it was today, and the ride was pretty short. Nevertheless, we'll count rides where we can now that it's so close to the end of the season. Just four more days before we leave for our big road trip to southern Spain. The ride was down the street to the Olympic Park where we took a walk.
