A little bit of motivation: on a cold and rainy day
Tuesday April 25, 2017, 15 km (9 miles) - Total so far: 15 km (9 miles)
Wow, I almost missed the seven-day Bicycle Life Challenge here on Bicycle Life completely. Am I crazy to start a seven-day challenge when there are only six days left, and the weather for the week is predicted to be below 10°C and 90% rain? A rhetorical question. A chance for Eternal Glory - the reward for completing the challenge - is so tempting. At the age of 77 you're not getting many more shots at that goal. The challenge - to put it as simply as possible for those who haven't read about it before - is to go on a ride at least seven times between March 11 and April 30, contribute to the local economy through which you ride by some sort of purchase and write accounts of the rides as a Bike Life journal with photographic proof that you really did it.
And why am I starting on the challenge so late when I could have easily achieved Eternal Glory if I had recorded my rides starting March 11? Because I just read about it yesterday. Impatient to get started on a tour of my own, I have been delving into the bicycle journals on cgoab again. One thing led to another and I landed on the page for Bicycle in Daily Life. Reading about other people's rides was terrific motivation to get me out on a wet and chilly day. My husband came along for the ride - and a good lunch.
So here we go. My rides will be short, all within Munich, and my theme is to get some shots that look like we are out in the country where I would prefer to ride my bike. We started out around noon, hoping it might clear up. It didn't. But with the Bike Life Challenge in mind and because I have a new rain jacket, we set out anyway. Our goal was Westpark, round trip approximately 15 km.

Munich's Westpark, 2.6 km long, is lovely. It's a mixture of formal gardens and open landscape. In the spring the fields of spring flowers and blossoming trees are a treat. At the far end of the garden, surrounded by the rose garden, is a little restaurant, good for a midday meal or coffee and cake.
