Seven in one blow: on a bright and sunny day
Sunday April 30, 2017, 18 km - Total so far: 71 km
I know what you're thinking - that I'm still talking about seven rides and that I am still obsessed with getting seven rides in. No, I'm talking about beer gardens this time. Munich is the world's beer garden capital. They are very special and we love them. The fact that they aren't accessible year round just heightens their appeal. A nice feature of our beer gardens is that you can bring your own picnic as long as you buy your beverage there, and it doesn't have to be beer. You can get coffee, soft drinks, even wine is that's what you prefer. Today I didn't bring a picnic, but we often do. Although the ride wasn't long, I managed to pass by (and photograph) seven beer gardens, all of them within the bounds of the English Garden.
After so many days of bad weather, it seemed everyone crawled out of their holes on this sunny Sunday. We got an early start, fortunately, for when we headed home at around 1:00 the paths were crammed. That was one good thing about the bad weather - no pesty people about.

Beer Garden Nr. 1: Behind the university is an entry to the English Garden. The Milchhäusl, or Little Milk House, calls itself a beer garden. It has been there since I studied in Munich over 50 years ago. It used to have milk that was pumped from a large vat. Today it is all organic. Going with the times.

Purchase of the day: Cheese, pretzel and a radler. We shared the beer, actually a radler, literally translated as "cyclist", as it is very thirst quenching. It's the same as a shandy (I think that's what it is called in England), or panaché in France, a beer mixed with a soft drink, such as carbonated lemonade, ginger beer, ginger ale...

Beer Garden Nr. 7: Fräulein Grüneis is a tiny little beer garden and food stand at the southern end of the English Garden. A delapidated building from 1904 that used to house public toilets was taken over by a young couple from Munich and made into a charming little bistro. The food is organic and the cakes home made.
So, dear readers, I managed to get seven rides in, albeit some were extremely short and the rest just short, before the deadline! I am so happy to have discovered this fun challenge as well as what an active and friendly site Bicycle Life is. Thank you so much for all the encouragement I got along the way. I am looking forward to reading your journals as well, now that I have finished all this riding and writing for the challenge. So if the Goddess so deigns, I am a candidate for Eternal Glory.
And apropos glory - I have never before given my bicycles names. But the bicycle I am now riding is a Victoria Trekking model and I have been secretly calling her Gloria Victoria, Gloria for short. The glory is all hers.
