Brixen: Let's stay a day
Thursday June 6, 2013
Our first idea was to go sightseeing in the morning and drive on in the afternoon. On our bicycle tours we always felt like we should keep moving if we wanted to get anywhere. But what was the hurry? Why not ride around Brixen, take our time to look at the churches, have a picnic on a park bench facing the duomo and have a home-cooked evening meal?
Near our camping was the old monastery, Kloster Neustift/Novacella and that was where we decided to start the day.

Near our camping was the old monastery, Kloster Neustift/Novacella and that was where we decided to start the day.
We were up too late to capture the early morning light that would be best for our picture taking, but we weren't about to complain about the bright sun. So we were off with our tripods and cameras.
Neither the church nor the old buildings were open unless you booked a tour, but that wasn't that important. We were enjoying just being there. After visiting Kloster Neustift, we rode along the Eisack/Isarco into Brixen proper (the camping is actually in Varna) and looked around. Brixen has a pretty, old town center and a South Tirolean feel to it, a nice mixture of Austrian and Italian lifestyle.
Our home-cooked meal was little more than the leftovers from our fridge before we left Munich. The good Italian wine made up for it.
