Testing the new saddle, and it's ...
Thursday March 15, 2018
Is it warm enough today? Has my cough let up enough? Can I do a test ride? Yes, I can. Janos and I waited for the pale spring sun to come out from behind the clouds. We set out around noon. That way I could not only test my new saddle but also indulge in a little lunch along the way.
The destination was Pasing, a kind of standard run to Munich's outskirts and back, mostly on bike paths and streets with little traffic. The total distance was 25 km. The grey post-winter scene didn't motivate me much to stop for pictures. I didn't really get my camera out until we reached our destination, the Vapiano restaurant - which I believe must be an international chain. Where I again had pizza. Yes, I like pizza. Although I don't like chain restaurants - they have the same menu around the globe, how ... globalized. On the other hand, I do like the name Vapiano, go slowly. I also like the saying: chi va piano va sano e va lontano, he who goes slowly will get far and in good health ... because I'm pretty slow.

On the way back I took the route through the Hirschgarten, a park with a deer enclosure. The deer, poor things spending their lives in a pen, were looking motley, so no pictures of them. The beer garden in the park is Munich's largest, and I saw exactly two guests. I did find a spot of color though, a nice bit of graffiti for my bicycle picture.
Ok, so how was my saddle? It felt different, different in a very good way. I was really getting much more weight on the sitbones which meant less pressure on other more sensitive areas. So it seems the ergonomics theory makes sense. Yay! I might still have to experiment with the position a little - perhaps a little bit forward or back or up or down ... I also want to see how it feels after a 50 or 60 km ride.
