Cycling in Circles

Spring Equinox ... and a mundane ride
Tuesday March 20, 2018

Spring at last - sort of. It's around 0°C and we had a couple of centimeters of new snow. I spent half the day wishing it were warmer and the rest of the time reading other people's bicycle journals. It was one of those days. Eventually I pulled myself together and decided there was no reason not to get on my bike and do some errands. Fortunately most of the snow had melted from the sidewalks, bike lanes and roads. I had my camera with me to document my everyday tasks on a short ride in the neighborhood.

It was nothing exciting - I went to the bank for some cash, brought bottles and plastic to the recycling containers and did a bit of shopping. Not a ride for my THEME. Will there ever be a ride for my circle around Munich?

First stop - the paper container is next to our building. I didn't even have to get on my bike to get rid of old paper.

I then got my bike out. See all the snow.

I cycled a couple of blocks to the bank where there is an ATM and got some cash.

On to the recycling containers for green glass, brown glass and white glass, plastic and tin cans.

My last stop is Lidl. Ah, spring at last.

When I got back, I was surprised to see that it wasn't more than 2°C. I was warmed up by my little ride and wished I had chosen a more ambitious destination for the outing.

That was it, not a tour but the bicycle in my daily life. When there is snow and ice I can do these things on foot - which I find slow and boring. The distances are too short to make it worthwhile to get in a car, and besides I wouldn't find a parking space. We also have good public transportation, but the bicycle is so much more convenient and fun - and it's good for you.
