We leave, destination unknown: Slovenia
Tuesday June 11, 2013
Time to move on. We are thinking of Klagenfurt, maybe something to see in the city and more bike rides in the surroundings. Klagenfurt is located on a lake, Wörthersee, which we imagine will also be attractive. We pack up slowly, no rush these days, and use up the rest of our prepaid Internet minutes. The weather hasn't changed, sun and dark clouds alternate, and it's a pleasant drive to Klagenfurt. Along the way we stop for a real coffee, not a cup of instant that we drink in our van, which is served in true Austrian style. It's strong and accompanied by a glass of water.

The approach to Klagenfurt is along the lake. I'm sure the lake would be beautiful if the view weren't obstructed by so many buildings. We decide Klagenfurt isn't for us. Good tourists that we are, we park and walk around the center of town for a look at the sights, an admittedly very superficial look. We take a look at the statue of the Lindwurm which is somehow mythically related to the founding of Klagenfurt in days of yore.
The map tells us Slovenia isn't far. Where shall we go, Ptuj or Bled, we know both are supposed to be lovely? Bled is closer.
We leave Austria over the Loibl Pass, what tight hairpin curves! In Šobec we find a pleasant camping located in an oxbow curve of the Sava River, about 4 km from Bled and its stunning lake.
