A Fine Start, Finally: Munich - Bad Tölz
Wednesday May 30, 2007
We lock the front door for what we think will be approximately three months, load our bikes and start out through the familiar streets of Munich. We have some headwinds and the air is cool, but it is reassuring to be on the road at last. We take the comfortable and car-free bike path along the Isar out of Munich. Due to the heavy rains the past few days, the river on its way from the mountains has become a muddy torrent, providing a challenge and fun for the local surfers.

Following the Isar, we work our way south and soon catch glimpses of the mountains dusted with a bit a fresh snow. The whole day feels like playing in the backyard, it's all very familiar. We stop for a picnic, take pictures and relish putting kilometers between us and home.
Bad Tölz is our goal for today. It's an old market town with a wide main street lined with houses frescoed in the tradition of Upper Bavaria.
